Happy New Year all! It’s amazing that we all get to experience a new cycle of life. A cycle to start over or to continue where we left off in 2018. Speaking of 2018, one of my final trips of the year was to Lamu – Kenya. A short trip to a beautiful island off the East coast of Kenya.

Lamu Archipelago – Kenya is host to Lamu situated off the coast of Kenya. Lamu Town, is the main town on the Island of Lamu. A beautiful rustic and laid back locale. There are only two cars on the Island and a few Boda Boda (aka okada, aka bikes) that can be found around town, as the major mode of transportation here is the Donkey. Yes! Lamu is on the Indian Ocean and it is such a beautiful place to be, as it embraces a quiet calm while it plays host to a mix of Arabic and Swahili cultures. Though my trip here was a short one, I was able to enjoy discovering the sites and sounds of this laid back town. And of course, I could not leave without visiting the local produce market after meandering down many cobbled narrow streets.

If you want to learn about a people and their culture, eat their food! The ingredients I found in Lamu are similar to those found in West Africa as well as the Middle East.
